Dr Jo-Lyn McKenzie

Dr McKenzie is a leading adult and paediatric Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) surgeon with special skills in advanced Head and Neck Cancer surgery, Paediatric ENT and Rhinology.
As well as treating all general child and adult ENT conditions such as glue ear and hearing loss, ear infections, tonsillitis, snoring and sinus problems – her areas of expertise include Thyroid Surgery and Head and Neck Cancer. She is appointed as a surgeon at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and The Queensland Children’s Hospital where she manages the full range of ENT presentations. She consults at North Lakes, Spring Hill, Wynnum and Springbrook operates at Brisbane Private, St Andrews and Mater Private Hospitals.
Dr McKenzie completed medical school with extensive academic Honours and prizes in Surgery and Medicine. She was on the Dean’s Honour List at University of Melbourne and was selected early to training as an Ear Nose and Throat Surgeon - choosing to return to her home state of Queensland. Following her ENT training in Brisbane, she attained further subspecialty post-fellowship training at Princess Alexandra Hospital. Since then Dr McKenzie has been in a mix of private and public practice.
Dr McKenzie is a leader in surgery and research. She has published and has been invited to speak at multiple ENT Surgery conferences. She has been part of cutting edge clinical trials and she holds an academic appointment at University of Queensland as a Lecturer in Medicine and Surgery. She is a passionate mentor of junior surgeons and involved in ongoing training as a supervisor of training doctors and a teacher of medical students through her position in elite teaching quaternary surgical units. Continuous study and improvement through ongoing education allows Dr McKenzie to always be offering the absolute cutting edge of ear nose and throat surgery to her patients.
Dr McKenzie has a young family and is a Queensland born and trained ENT surgeon. She is a regular on the running track and at community events. She has been a patient, and a patients parent as well as a surgeon and understands your needs and can support you through your diagnosis and management. She is focused on attention to detail, communication and patient-centred care which makes her a compassionate and caring doctor who can guide you and your family through your diagnosis and treatment options.
